Set up and operate camera and lighting

All of us helping set up the camera

We helped in setting up the camera together. We used a tripod to stabilize the camera. Khairun then sets up the LED light that she borrowed from school. This helps us with our three-point lighting (as shown above). For the three-point lighting, we used the room's light, the window/torch, and the LED light on the camera. Helping us in creating the best possible lighting for the scene to set the mood. Meeting the short film's generic conventions.

Making sure the three point lighting is right

Here we are set up the schools barn door lights to create three point lighting and we used one the light from the ceiling for our cinematic shot in 'Hallucinations'

In post-production, Khairun has added a lighting overlay effect in the short film using Final cut pro by clicking and choosing a visual effect and then dropping it onto the footage we want to place the effect on. This creates meaning as it is effective in making Selima look like she is out of her mind. Dreaming or hallucinating. This effect is shown right until she wakes up. This creates meaning by showing a dreamy effect.

After Selima wake up

Selimas hazy hallucination

In the picture above we have also played around with the colour settings. Putting the desired tone, we want. This creates an aesthetic and meaning for the film. The bright colours contrast with the more muted colours in other scenes. Similarly, the warm tones contrast with the darker more grey tones, creating a different aesthetic. This also creates meaning as it shows that in the beginning, she has just started hallucinating so the colours are more muted but as the scenes go on, she is getting sucked deeper into her dream making the scenes get more colour or warmer. This shows that she is in her comfort space as warm colours tend to evoke more emotions such as love, happiness, and passion. However, suddenly her mind starts to get hazy and then that's when she wakes up. We can see in the picture above where she wakes up that she is still in the same room suggesting that this must be her bedroom. The lighting here is still warm compared to other scenes in the beginning and the reason for this is because it shows that Selima hasn't realised yet that this wasn't a dream but a hallucination. She just thinks of it as a happy dream with some of her memories.

And in the next scene when she goes to check on her friends the scene is still colourful and warm. Up until the news is broken to her by her mother that her friends haven't been around for years, and that they have passed away in a tragic accident. This is where the colour tone changes to become greyer and the colours muter. This creates meaning as it suggests that Selima is sad and mourning the loss of her dearest friends. The atmosphere around her has changed not only to show Selima's grief to the audience but also to make them mourn with her.

Selima finds out the truth and starts mourning
